"After a year at the Yoga Project, I wanted to share some of my thoughts with all the wonderful people who practice together. My expectations were a little different because as an athlete in high school and college, I worked out in hot rooms during practices. Although that was over 35 years ago, the intensity of the workouts brought me back to those days and probably made it easier to stay with this program.
What is very different and what brings the most pleasure to the workouts, are the people who are there. The reasons for starting this journey are varied but the results are you become a better person in both body and spirit.
The practices not only allow you to sweat away pounds but also sweat away other obstacles that are part of all of our lives. These practices allow you to stop the outside world and outside influences and concentrate a making yourself a better person.
During these sessions the outside world goes away and there is a clarity. Yes, you need to make time for the sessions. Yes, you have to do more laundry. Yes, you have to buy new cloths because the old stuff doesn't fit. But what you get is a power to be yourself and feel good about it.
This is the second time in my life that I have participated in organized physical workouts and in the early years I have seen many an athlete leave because the workouts were too hard. Many of them would not come to a second Yoga class. But I have seen many more new students who have stayed with our yoga practices because they see the value in the process. As I see the new people starting the practice, I can only hope that they stay with it long enough to sweat through the first sessions and see the possibility of future results. One of those results are that layers of walls we put up, in some cases to protect ourselves and in others to show a false image ,are melted away You see the real person underneath. Those are the people I have bonded with and look forward to seeing every day.
We come from many different places but during the practices we are all striving to reach similar goals. A sound mind in a sound body. As I look back on the last year's journey, I am thankful for the progress that I have made but know that I am just starting. I look forward to that journey with the support of my teammates and friends."

| "I signed up for the 40 day program hoping that I would lose some weight and relieve some stress at the end of the school year. I could have never imagined that I would meet such incredible people and the benefits would continue beyond the 40 days and be life changing in so many ways. With this community you can accomplish more than you ever dream. With the connections you make you become stronger, more open, and energized to take time for yourself. By focusing on your mind, body, and spirit at the same time the rest of your life becomes more calm and focused. This was something that I wanted to do for ME and in return it helped my family, my work, and all my relationships. Dropping over 1 size didn't hurt either. I am peaceful and strong." |

My daughter, Lacy, went away to college this past fall & I became an “empty-nester”. My coworkers asked me “what are you going to do with your extra time?” I told them I wanted to try yoga to help manage my stress but wasn't sure where to start. One of the gals told me about a yoga studio in Waxahachie, The Yoga Project which her sister had been to & really liked. She told me the class was done in a hot room. Several of us decided to try it I had no idea what to expect but went into it with an open mind and heart.
I enjoyed the first practice so much and I now I hate it when I miss a day. The changes in me started immediately. These changes are physical, mental & spiritual. When I go to my practice I feel like my day melts away. All the stress and anxiety peel away, layer by layer. I often get lost in the detail and minutia of the day and always feel like I have to be in control. Power Vinyasa Yoga has helped me to realize that I can't always be in control and that's OK. I may come to practice in a very bad mood but I always leave with a good feeling. I leave each practice with a sense of well being and peace within myself. I am more centered & calm and deal with my stress more effectively. The weight loss and muscle toning have been a bonus that I never expected when I started coming to practice. I have lost 20 pounds and strengthened and toned muscles I forgot I had.
When my daughter came home from school this summer, I asked her to come to practice with me. She's very athletic and competitive. At first, I think she came just because I asked her to & probably thought it wasn't going to be much of a workout. With each practice she became more hooked & liked the intensity of the practice. Sheryl has named her the “Abs Fiend”. She likes going home feeling like she has accomplished something & knowing she has taken herself to the edge & back. I have enjoyed having her at practice with me & doing something together that is so good for us in so many ways. It is cool to go to yoga with your Mom!
I tell everyone about Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga and The Yoga Project and how much I love it. It's intense and powerful but easy and gentle all at the same time. At The Yoga Project there is no judgment, expectations, competition or mirrors. Stacy, Dave, Sheryl and Penny have been so great and have taught me things I thought I could never do. They support and challenge me. I have also learned a lot from the other yogi's in the class and feel like I have made lasting friendships. Yoga is now a part of my life forever! |
